The J&J Health Risk Assessment Kiosk allows large companies to survey their workforce and determine areas of possible risk or loss due to health concerns or lifestyle choices. J&J and their software developer, Summex, approached Catalyst with a challenge. Their current unit was not only difficult to use and unreliable, but required a special PCB and firmware which limited custom programming which was often required. Furthermore, J&J had committed to a delivery of 25 newly design units in 90 days.
The project scope required that the new unit have a stock Intel based mother board, hard drive, OCR scanner, and ELO touch screen. Additionally, the unit needed to be easy to transport and very rugged. Since the previous model was very unattractive, J&J wanted a design that was more stylized. However, because of the 12” touchscreen, the final unit size made injection molding the entire cabinet cost prohibitive for the budget. Catalyst’s solution was to use a powder coated sheet metal enclosure for the lower portion on which plastic covers and doors were attached to give a more organic form to the kiosk. This worked to not only to keep tooling costs low, but added to the ruggedness of the unit.
Catalyst provided a complete turnkey solution that included Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, Electronic/Electrical Design, Prototyping, Testing, Tooling, Sheet Metal Enclosure Design, and Final Assembly. Additionally, Catalyst not only completed the entire project in 90 days but went on to provide long term assembly of the units.
