During product design and development, sales are zero and profits are negative because the anticipated future profits are being invested in the product development. The longer it takes to develop a product and begin production and distribution, the lower the profits will be over the lifetime of the product. Rapid manufacturing and Deployment can further reduce the product development time by maintaining momentum into production--even for a short period of time while high volume production is being ramped up. Using short run or low volume production parts until full production is on line will further reduce the time to market. This results in capturing a greater initial market share and a greater profit potential. |
