Product Background
For more than 80 years, Evenflo has been a leader in the baby care industry. With a strong reputation for quality, innovation and customer care, consumers trust Evenflo and consider them a top choice in baby care products. Evenflo relies heavily on consumer research for feedback and ideas throughout their product lines. When a round of research suggested that their breast pump line could be improved, Evenflo immediately partnered with Catalyst PDG to develop a new design.
The Challenge
Re-establishing the breast pump design in the market place became the main focus of the project. The Industrial Design team met with the challenge to redesign the product around the existing mechanics of the unit while considering the ergonomic implications of the design. Comfort, style and ease of use were paramount in this development.
The Design
By exploring many possible solutions in sketch form, the designers were able to choose and refine the one that most effectively accomplished the design goals. This design exploration helped the group identify and challenge all design possibilities and look beyond the norm for the edge that would give Evenflo the competitive advantage.
The Catalyst Difference
When many design firms would have completed the project with sketches, Catalyst took it one step further. As the concepts were presented, Catalyst sculpted clay models at each level of refinement to evaluate and validate the comfort and ergonomics of each design. This additional step became instrumental in the final decision making process by giving Evenflo the confidence in the design based on the previous research findings.
Results
The successful launch of the breast pump redesign led to a 45% market share!
