Product Background
The Hunter Fan Company, known worldwide for its quality, craftsmanship and performance partnered with Catalyst PDG to expand their product offering to include a line of bathroom fans. The new collection of bathroom fans encompasses a style for every bathroom.
The Challenge
The bath fan category had been stagnant in both design and innovation for several years when The Hunter Fan Company identified it as an opportunity to expand their product offering. The most customer and value based opportunities for improvement proved to be in the installation and aesthetics of the product. Catalyst was charged with using their creative problem solving skills to develop packaging design and installation solutions while quickly developing a platform that would support multiple SKUs.
The Design
In order to achieve the design goals of the project, the Designers and Engineers considered the needs of both the general contractors who install the fans as well as the end users. Concentrating on the how the units are installed led to several customer feedback sessions with the general contractors, ranging from concept boards to actual hands on focus groups with both prototype and pre-production parts. The feedback received from the contractors was then used to refine the final design. The final design proved to be easier to install for both professional contractors and do-it-yourselfers than competitive units on the market.
The Catalyst Difference
At the point where many typical design firms would hand the project over as complete, the Catalyst group continued their support throughout the entire product development process. From project management to production support, Catalyst collaborated with manufacturing facilities to ensure that the design goals were met and implemented as intended.
Results
The launch of the new bath fan line was so successful; it convinced Lowe's to remove a long standing competitive brand to place the Hunter Fans brand on the shelf.
