Product Function
As beautiful as a design might be, unless it functions as intended, it will not be successful. The Catalyst Design team, involved in the design process from the beginning, is charged with breathing life into the final concept. Things like creating a bill of material, designing the mechanical system for proper function and ensuring fit and finish are all part of this challenge, while at the same time maintaining cost targets.
Virtual Prototyping and Simulations
 One of the best ways to quickly identify a problem area or an area for enhancement is with the use of virtual prototyping and simulation. Specially developed software allows the Engineering Team to examine the design in 3 dimensions, watching how the parts will move, examining the fit of one part to another and verifying the ergonomic conditions against the user’s characteristics. All of this allows them to quickly and inexpensively identify and solve potential problems and highlight potential areas for product enhancement.
Manufacturability
In addition to ensuring the fit and function of the product, the Catalyst Engineering Team considers the ideal design for manufacturing. As the design team considers style, features, and human factors the engineering and manufacturing teams immediately begin reviewing the design to determine the most efficient and cost effective way to manufacture the product without sacrificing design intent. This focus strengthens the overall design process and ensures a smooth transition to manufacturing.
