Whether your design needs overall improvement or the competition is winning the game, Industrial Design is the most logical place to start assessing your design. As part of the Define Phase of the Catalyst 6D product development process, Industrial Design encompasses a variety of exercises to help you design the best product possible. These exercises include such things as:
 |
Ideation and Design Exploration
Style, shape, colors and features all come to life with ideation and design exploration. After narrowing the direction down from the brainstorming session held during the Discovery phase, quick sketching and considering every possibility of the use, function and future of a product typically results in a more defined product and product line direction. Taking the design deeper and exploring style lines determine the differentiation between concepts.

Human Factors
The Catalyst design team spends countless hours understanding how users interact with products. The Define phase of our process incorporates this relationship into the design. At this stage, having very specific, targeted demographic information is critical. The design team considers the size and shape of the user as well as the five sensory perceptions, all of which can make or break a product’s long term success.
Concept Refinement
Once the final design direction has been chosen and the Define phase is coming to an end, the designers focus on refining the design and drawings to begin the next step in the product development process. At this point the drawings will transform from quick undefined sketches to a more defined, deliberate concept drawing that the Engineering team will use in the Develop phase to continue developing the product concept. |
